The Annual Walk/Run for Celiac Disease that is held in Minnesota, is unique in that we don't require a registration fee for walk participants and people who won't be going on either the walk or the run. Organizers of this event believe it is extremely important that families be able to attend the event, learn more about the gluten-free lifestyle, and raise awareness for this cause without breaking the bank in registration fees.
In exchange we ask that you do your best in gathering donations for our fundraiser. Money raised goes to the University of Maryland Baltimore's Center for Celiac Research. This organization has made great strides in celiac research within the last 10 years, including conducting a prevalence study that discovered 1 in 133 Americans have celiac disease. Before this study, doctors estimated celiac struck 1 in approximately 5,000!
Ultimately the organization wants to do the research to make the lives of people living with celiac disease as good as it can be. Someday their work may include a vaccine or medication to help celiacs tolerate gluten. For more information on all of the areas in which the Celiac Center is researching, you can find out more on UMB's website.
With your help we can make a difference. Besides your donation going to UMB's Celiac Center, Twin Cities ROCK can keep up to 25% of donations to assist in educational efforts here in Minnesota, including putting on this fundraiser walk/run and food fair each year. Please help in our quest to raise awareness and money for celiac disease because the more people know about it the better off we all are!
